Welcome
back!
It is easy to feel powerless in todays
world. If we watch the news it is filled
with disasters, from minor to major situations.
If we drive on the freeway there always
seems to be someone who is threatening
us with irresponsible road etiquette.
The harried clerks in a store may rush
us to a point of frenzy. These things
are real to us and it is hard to remember
that it does not have to be our way of
seeing life.
We
can always choose our thoughts and our
actions. When we remember this we retain
our personal power. We do not have to
respond to someone who is less inclined
to be happy, or trusting, or kind, as
if it is personal. It is very important
to remember that everyone is on their
own path and their way of reacting to
life has very little to do with us personally.
At this particular time of the year stress
piles up and an already busy life becomes
even busier. The way we react to stress
affects not only our ability to enjoy
each day but may leave us vulnerable to
winter colds and viruses.
If
we all made an attempt to change just
one negative reaction to something that
usually pushes our buttons we would retrieve
personal power and our life would have
one less stressful moment. Multiply that
by 2 or 3 things and think about how many
moments of peace and calm could be added
to our day and how much healthier we could
be.
Wishing
you all moments of peace and calm beyond
your expectations.

Too Little Sleep May Accelerate Aging
Regularly catching only a few hours of
sleep can hinder metabolism and hormone
production in a way that is similar to
the effects of aging and the early stages
of diabetes. Chronic sleep loss may speed
the onset or increase the severity of
age-related conditions such as type 2
diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity,
and memory loss. The researchers showed
that just one week of sleep deprivation
altered subject's hormone levels and their
capacity to metabolize carbohydrates.
People who trade sleep for work or play
may get used to it and feel less fatigued.
During
sleep-deprivation, the researchers found,
the men's blood sugar levels took 40%
longer to drop following a high-carbohydrate
meal, compared with the sleep-recovery
period. In addition, the sleep-deprived
men had higher nighttime concentrations
of the hormone cortisol, which also helps
regulate blood sugar, and lower levels
of thyroid-stimulating hormone. These
raised cortisol levels mimic levels that
are often seen in older people, and may
be involved in age-related insulin resistance
and memory loss.

According
to the NSF(Nation Sleep Foundation) Sleep
in America Poll, Americans average 6.9
hours of sleep on weeknights and 7.5 hours
on weekends. More than half of adults
surveyed said they experience one or more
symptoms of insomnia at least a few nights
a week. Insomnia is characterized by difficulty
initiating sleep, maintaining sleep, or
waking too early.
Need help sleeping at night? Eat a high-protein
snack several hours before bed. This can
provide the L-tryptophan need to produce
melatonin and serotonin.
Also
eat a small piece of fruit. This can help
the tryptophan cross your blood-brain
barrier.

Title:
"The
Power of Intention," by Dr.
Wayne W. Dyer
"The
Power of Intention" is a book
I highly recommend for all who would like
to realize positive change in any area
of life. This book gives a very readable
perspective on finding your way to a basic
core of living life in joy. The simple
techniques and insights are not mystical
or complicated; in fact it is just the
opposite. This book serves as a profound
reminder that the power to co-create is
a gift we all possess.
