I just glanced at an article that was titled "Preparedness Is Your Responsibility" and it made me think of the different applications of this statement. The article was addressing catastrophic disasters, but my mind went to the responsibility we all have to ourselves of keeping our bodies prepared for a physical environment that can pose many challenges. It is winter, and it is flu season, and if that weren’t bad enough, we are plagued with mutating super bugs and new strains of potentially deadly viruses.

It behooves us to prepare for these threats in our midst by taking preventive measures to ensure a strong immune system.  We can prepare for environmental onslaughts in much the same way we would for a national disaster; by maintaining our bodies in the best health possible. Taking care of our health on a daily basis means having a plan and sticking to it. It is important to eat fresh, healthy foods and drink clean water, but we must also educate ourselves about other natural options for a strong defense.   We must integrate preventive measures that will ensure us the best possible stance when confronted with situations that could compromise our health.

Our goal at Eidon is to offer the means to a healthy, balanced, mineral foundation and also provide ongoing education so that we humans can reach our highest potential. Staying healthy is multidimensional, and there are many informational resources available. The Well Being Journal is a publication I highly recommend along with other resources found on our Website.

How do I. . .

... bypass that annoying automated voice

We have a website for those who feel their blood pressure rising when the automated voice starts giving the first of many prompts on the road to a human voice contact. Paul English.com gives shortcuts to bypassing all the irritating questions. Many, but not all major companies are listed catagorically.

Also, if you have a cell phone, take note: On Feb. 5th 2006, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls on your cell phone, which you will be charged for... isn't that just lovely? To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You can also do so by clicking on http://www.donotcall.gov

A new study at Yale University’s Prevention Research Center has found a more justification for eating dark chocolate.  We have heard about the antioxidant benefit and the anti depression benefit, now we are being told it can improve blood pressure as well as having the ability to dilate blood vessels and increase flow, a key factor in cardiovascular health. Did you know dark chocolate is full of magnesium?

Acupuncture, long shunned by mainstream medicine but for centuries considered the crown jewel of alternative therapy, is slowly gaining ground in doctors' offices throughout the country. Although some experts still question its effectiveness, studies in recent years -- including one at Duke last fall -- have thrown scientific weight behind its benefits. Every Feb. 2 has a special significance for researchers at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine, and it's not because scientists think a sleepy rodent on Groundhog Day (which is today) can predict winter's end. Rather, the groundhog (also known as the woodchuck) is honored at Cornell for its indispensable contributions to the study of liver disease in humans. For more than 15 years, animals born at the world's only scientific source of disease-free woodchucks have led researchers to discoveries in treatment and prevention of hepatitis B infection and the liver cancer it can cause. "Iodine: The Universal Nutrient," by Guy E. Abraham, M.D.
In textbooks of medicine, endocrinology and thyroidology, the essential element iodine is mentioned only in connection with the most severe forms of deficiency of this nutrient: cretinism, iodine-deficiency induced goiter and hypothyroidism. Many physicians would be surprised to learn that more than a hundred years ago, iodine was called "The Universal Medicine," and was used in several clinical conditions.

Until next month...
Best of health to you, and yours...

IBS and Magnesium - "We followed the elimination diet to no avail and used everything from high dose acidopholus to apple cider vinegar, vitamins and heart rate variability breathing. While some things seemed to help it did not eliminate the pain which was most acute upon arising. . . one week later [he] feels as though his IBS is nearly gone."
