Welcome back!

Another month has come and gone, seemingly in the blink of an eye. For those of us in Southern California, the fast approaching Spring Equinox is obvious in the appearance of budding plants and sunnier days.

Winter, for many of us, is the time for slowing down and spending more time indoors. During the winter months we need more "fuel food" in order to generate enough energy to keep us warm. Spring affords us the opportunity to rev up our engines and prepare for a more active life style during the warmer months.

It is hard to be patient in this short span of time between the end of winter and beginning of spring, but we can use this time as a transitional period. Now is the time to prepare for the new phase of activity the changing season brings. Gradually increasing our exercise regime and incorporating the lighter foods of the season will put more spring into our step.

The old concept of Spring cleaning is a good metaphor and one from which we can all benefit. Spring cleaning can include more than just house cleaning. This is a good time to remove the clutter in our lives, detox our bodies from accumulation of those higher levels of refined carbs, sugars and not so healthy fats we tend to eat in the winter, and open ourselves up to positive energy.

The regimen you follow will greatly depend on your level of toxicity such as when going through a substance abuse program, or doing a detox as part of your regular preventative health care. Detoxifying footpads, for those of you not familiar with them, are a very gentle, effective and noninvasive method I personally use when I feel the need.

How do I. . .

Did you know?. . .

What's New on Our Site. . .

. . . Happiness
According to many authorities in the field, "Happiness is 50% genetic."  That means we must take personal responsibility for the other 50%.

Abraham Lincoln, famous for his many clever quotes (among other achievements) once said; "Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be." It seems a simplistic approach but not a bad start if researchers are correct. One technique that seems particularly harmless and easy to implement is to smile more, laugh more and feel gratitude more. Another technique is to use flower essences such as "Calm & Clear," "Creative," and "Space Clearing."

Lavender is a natural quick fix for anger, frustration and insomnia. It can be diffused or applied topically and safely added to food or drink to enhance flavor or achieve a calming effect.

The Romans used lavender in public baths, which is where it gets its name: from the Latin term Lavare: meaning "to wash."

A study in Austria provided evidence of the sedative effects of the essential oil of lavender after inhalation (Buchbauer et al., 1992).

In France, Lavender is everywhere: dish soap, laundry detergent, and household cleaners. It is not a luxury, but an everyday useful ingredient.

The brain can actually distinguish the properties of high grade organic lavender from imitations.

It takes 80 pounds of lavender to make 1 ounce of oil; it is very concentrated.

Mercury and Thyroid Disease
There is a possibility that a malfunctioning thyroid has the potential to normalize naturally when given the proper conditions

Feng Shui Tips for Spring Cleaning

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art of the placement of objects within a building to purify and promote good energy and good luck. If you don't have time to study the finer points of this system, you can just place something from each of the four elements in each corner of a room, or anywhere in your house.

Earth: Plants represent earth.
Air: Use a feather to represent air.
Water: A small waterfall, or aquarium will do.
Fire: Instead of burning candles, which should not be left unattended, use something red to represent fire.

Plants are very good for purifying and will absorb many negative energies, including invisible toxins in your home or office. They also brighten up the atmosphere and give you needed oxygen, particularly important if you have no windows or fresh air in a work environment.
